Formatting Theology Papers

Note For Theology Papers on Margins

The style manual requires a 2" heading on the first page and a 1.4" on the rest of the paper. Follow these instructions for the easiest way to accomplish this. Set all of your margins at 1.4". Then follow these instructions.

1. Toggle the Show Formatting ( ¶ ) on the Home Tab-Paragraph Buttons section

2. Turn on Vertical Page position and Line Numbering by right clicking ribbon on the bottom of the Word window where you see the Page count and word count. The menu will pop up. Make sure "Vertical Page Position" is ticked.

3. To get a 2 inch first page, put one return before the first heading. It should now be at 1.7" according to the page info at the bottom of Word. Do it a second time and it should be at 2.1". That is as close as Word will get using this method. But this is the easiest way.

To get it exact at 2", right click on the second second paragraph return icon and right click. Choose "Paragraph" from the menu. Change that line from Double to single space and change After from 0pt to 6pt.

Now you have 2" on the first page without having to change the 1.4 for the rest of the document or manipulating the pages through page breaks as was previously required.

For other formatting, see the videos below.
