About Thesaurus and Indexes

Databases have unique subject terms or thesauri.
1. Choose a database.
2. Access and select the controlled vocabulary. in a database, when available, click the Subject Terms, Thesaurus or More>Indexes links in the top menu bar. Choose a field.
3. Choose an index from the drop menu list. Key in your term, such as Church History, and select the display option, such as Relevancy Ranked. Click Browse.
4. Select your terms from the list of displayed subjects. Click a term text link to display the details, or drill down through available subject. Mark the checkboxes for terms that identify your topic then click the Add button, which moves your selected terms into the searching text box at the top of the page. Click Search.

ATLA Religion Database with Full Text -- Subjects and Thesauri

Try this:
Go to opens new windowATLA Religion Database.
Click More then Indexes in top menu bar.
For "Browse an Index" choose Subjects All from the drop menu.
Key in a term, such as church history. Click Browse.
Mark the checkbox(es) for relevant terms, then click Add. Click Search .

Some databases have unique features such as the CLIO Notes in opens new windowAmerica: History and Life with Full Text. (covers U.S. and Canada)

Try this:
Go to opens new windowAmerica: History and Life with Full Text.
Click Thesaurus in the top menu bar, key in your browsing term.
Select the browse option.
or
Click CLIO Notes (top menu bar) > [1700-1775] The Road to Revolution.
--Click the Chronology of Events link.
--Or, under Colonial Religions click The Great Awakening.

Humanities Source -- Thesaurus

Humanities Source includes worldwide content covering all aspects of humanities.

Try this:
Go to opens new windowHumanities International.
Click Thesaurus in the top menu bar.
In the Browsing text box, key in your term, such as Great Awakening. Select a search option: Term Begins With, Term Contains or Relevancy Ranked. Click Browse.
Click the text link to view the Scope Note and related subjects or terms.
Mark the checkbox(es) for your term(s), then click Add.
