Welcome to Immersive Technologies
Immersive technologies change or expand the physical world by merging it with digital or simulated reality, creating a new world for immersion experiences. For example, Augmented Reality (AR) creates a digital addition, or layer, to your reality and Virtual Reality (VR) is a full immersion into another world or reality, shutting out the physical world.
Note: If you are a first time virtual reality (VR) user, you may want to invite a friend to help with putting on the headphones, getting started with an app or experience, and using the VR controllers. Consider taking a break after 30 minutes of use or if you feel nauseous or uncomfortable from the movement, rotation and space perception while wearing a head-mounted display. It may take a couple of sessions to get used to the immersive experience.
The Library's VR headsets (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest) provide an engaging and exciting fully immersive experience that allows the user to interact with computer-generated objects.
