Policies and Information

The information on this page covers ORU Library's response, policies, and procedures regarding the safety of our patrons during this time.

Requirements and Recommendations

Masks are required in all public areas per city ordinance and university policy. Any patron not wearing a mask in the Library will be asked to put on their mask. The requirement to wear a mask in the Library includes study rooms, carrels, stacks (book shelves), and restrooms.

Sanitization of books and equipment

The ORU Library has implemented the following procedures to help minimize the spread of infection.

  • Plexiglass shields have been installed at the One-Stop Library Services desk areas; at Checkout and at Consultation.
  • When Library Staff are assisting patrons in areas without screens, social distancing of 6 feet will be observed. If social distancing is not possible, the wearing of masks or face shields is required and the duration of those interactions will be kept to a minimum (less than 15 minutes).
  • When books are returned and books that are left on tables will be placed in quarantine for three (3) days.
  • Computers, keyboards, mice, and desks are thoroughly cleaned each morning prior to opening and sanitized throughout the day as time and staff permit.
    • Patrons are strongly encouraged to wipe down surfaces before and after your use (ask at the One Stop Desk for cleaning materials).
    • We also recommend frequent use of hand sanitizer, frequent, thorough hand-washing, and avoiding touching your face.
  • Printers/copiers, self-checkout, and kiosks will be cleaned each morning and throughout the day as time and staff permit.
    • Patrons should use hand sanitizer and wipe down surfaces with cleaning materials obtained from the One Stop Library Services desk before and after use.
  • Reference books and many Reserve items cannot be sanitized and cannot be quarantined. Use hand sanitizer before and after using books and other items from these areas.
  • Cords and other reserve items that can be disinfected will be wiped down upon each check-in.
